He grimaced as the fox forced himself to swallow the bile that rose in his throat. Throwing up on Mikomi’s floor wouldn’t make it any better. Heterochromatic eyes were shut tight, trying to shake of the nausea. The words were all bubbled to him. But nothing hurt thankfully. The drugs were doing their job. It almost made Koby laugh. He glanced up at Mikomi, eyes willed with sadness and begging for forgiveness. A sudden yelp left his maw as he was let go, thrown to the floor. He still didn’t feel it. Eyes were wide with shock. Koby wasn’t expecting the throw. He followed the two as they left, Mikomi running after each other. Her words were still all incoherent and slow. The next thing he knew… She fell. Childish laughter assaulted his ears. Sky danced her way into the house, smiling and spinning. She ended her little dance with a giggle and stood on her toes. “Look what you did,” Her voice was all cutesy. It disgusted Koby. He stared at her, his face void of emotions. “You’re always causing problems! And how many have you killed now?” The laugh was sick and twisted. Koby looked away. How many now? Oh let’s see… Its five now including Miko. All were from his coven. First was Arial, an un-trusted spy. Then was Temperance; his supposed deputy. Then Azuma; the neglected kit from the leader who came to him for help. And lastly, Frazier; the true heir to the leader’s rank. Not to mention a total nuisance in Koby’s plans. Now Miko was falling to her death. Another one to add to the list. But… There was more dead too. His mother and father. Both died because of him. Always him. The water and the fire. The young fox held back a sob. “Murderer,” Sky began to chant. Koby shifted back into his human form and stumbled to his feet. Tears gathered in his eyes but he refused to let them fall. “Have I been that cruel to you when we were back home that I disserve this? What happened to the sweet, blind little sister I had?” That’s right… Sky’s eyes had been fixed. How, he didn’t know. He didn’t care really. At first, the fox was so happy to see his sibling again. But now he just wanted her gone. Koby leaned against the wall behind him. His arms wrapped around his waist as Koby hunched over. Why did he always mess things up?! Everyone would be better off without him. Better off if he was dead. The tears finally overflowed. Koby slid down the wall and cried silently. The drugs were supposed to make everything numb so why… Why did his chest hurt so much? The fox buried his head in his hands. Mikomi was probably dead because of him. He should have never entered the café! He shouldn’t have even let Mikomi take him home! The fox should have resisted more. Than none of this would have happened. Mikomi wouldn’t know he’s a fox. She wouldn’t have shot a man. And she wouldn’t have to do… Those things to him when he went to her job to stop her if he wasn’t so nosey. They wouldn’t have fought… And… And… Koby’s mind raced with everything that had happened between him and her. He looked up, noticing the chants had died down. Sky wasn’t there anymore. She left… Like always. He was slightly happy at the thought. However, it only made him feel guilty for thinking such things of his sister. Something caught the fox’s eye. His old collar. Koby slowly got up and headed towards it. Without thinking, he grabbed the object and returned to his spot. Nimble fingers gently held the object, as thou it was glass. The bright blue buckle collar made of nylon materials didn’t look faded. And the shiny metal of his identification tag glistened in his eyes. Clutching it tightly, Koby held back sobs as he curled into the object, sitting on the floor. Gawd was he sorry. But sorry didn’t cut it this time. No matter how many ‘sorry’s he chanted out, it wouldn’t make a difference. Were they even being said allowed? His mouth felt like it was moving but his lungs and throat didn’t feel the vibration of the words. Maybe the fox was merely mouthing them? He didn’t care really. All that mattered were the drugs… Drugs. Maybe he should overdose. Suicide would end it all! Everyone’s pains would be gone! And then he could see Baulic and his parents again. It sounded like a wonderful idea… However, Koby was probably too much of a pansy to go thru with it. He just sat there, not longer pleasantly numb, as his mouth continued to form the words ‘I’m sorry,’ Over and over again. Nothing else mattered. Not now at least.
