Diamond in the Rough
And I just can't get enough
[Koby is a normal sized Arctic fox being 10 inches tall at the shoulders. He’s around 40 inches in length; His tail 12 inches. His fur is a pale gray with a white muzzle, forehead, and legs. From his chin down to the inside of his legs is a paler gray that blends nicely at his sides. A darker gray covers his thighs and a small stripe on the upper side of his body. The long tail has a white underside with a darker top and is slightly white tipped. Koby has a black button nose and two-toned eyes. The left, a bright sky blue, the right, hazel brown.
As for Koby’s human form, he stands tall at around 5 ft. He’s underweight for his age. Only 125 pounds. Do to this; his skin is a sickly pale color. His cheeks slightly hollow as well. The outfit that Koby wears is quite simple. A white, button-up shirt, a black vest, black with thin zebra-like striped pants, and running sneakers. He also wears a tan scarf that, when he transforms, appears on both his human and fox forms. This works for his special watch too. Koby wears it a certain way. The clock part is on the underside of his wrist. Koby wears black fingerless gloves as well. They’re on almost all of the time. He sometimes forgets to take them off when he goes to sleep. Also, a black gothic like cross key which is used for his house key.
Most of the time, Koby wears contacts. However, he does have a pair of glasses that he wears occasionally. Usually, it’s when he’s too tired (lazy) to put the contacts in.
Due to a lot of fights when he was younger, Koby’s body is littered with scars. In his human form, the visible ones are covered up with concealer. However in his fox form, they’re not. There are two on his face, bite marks on his neck, back leg, and tail, on his shoulder, stomach, and a long gash going down the side of his thigh.]
It's All a Part of Me
And that's who I am
[Koby isn’t a fox to be messed with. Get him aggravated and he’ll make it his top priority to publicly humiliate you. He has an arrogant ‘air’ around him which is mostly because he’s anti-social. There are very few people he stays with. It’s probably because he’s rude and sarcastic. Half of the words that fall from his mouth are merely snide remarks. But, once you get past this cold exterior, you’ll find an intelligent and charming fox. His mind is always racing so ideas sprout out everywhere. He plans many things and even has back up plans upon back up plans. There are very rare times where Koby is never prepared.
If the fox is ever in a tight spot, his actions become irrational and sometimes made out of anger. Most likely, Koby will rethink what had happened afterwards and go over what he could‘ve done to better the situation. He may even put himself down for making stupid mistakes. However, this usually makes him prepared for a similar experience that may happen later. This ‘technique’ comes in handy quite often.
Sadly, Koby has hallucinations. Thou, he doesn’t consider them as hallucinations. He believes them to be real; that his dead sister, and occasionally brother, run around Vale and chat with him. Its uncertain wither these hallucinations are from early forming Schizophrenia or from Insomnia. The young fox rarely sleeps. His mind is always racing which makes it hard to fall asleep. Koby is lucky if he can even get a few minutes of peaceful rest. Also, there’s little proof that either of his parents had Schizophrenia.
Unknown to most people, Koby does indeed have a soft side. However, it’s locked away from everyone. Well, almost everyone. His grandfather and an old friend are the only ones who know of this side. The only ones who know he can’t smile. He had forgotten how. That Koby loves chocolate and has a, super tiny, soft spot for cute things. That he fears death and water/drowning. And that Koby has many dislikes. Too many to list. Unfortunately, it will always be two and nevermore.]
It's Time to Fly
And let's just say goodbye
[Koby’s past is hazy and blurred. He can’t remember most of it. It’s unclear whether it’s due to trauma or simply because he chooses not to. Small snippets and major events are the only things he really can remember. Though, some of Koby’s Younger days were the happiest time of his life.
The young fox grew up around Port Loco with his lovable mother Rosa, very strict father Aston, older twin Charlie, and younger, blind, sister Sky. It was a very peaceful time for them. They were in a small coven and had enough to eat. There were times to explore and play with friends. Even thou Koby was the middle kit, he tended to be more careful and logical out of the three. It was as if he was the eldest and not Charlie.
The twins were inseparable. Almost as if they were joined at the hip. If Charlie was to get into trouble, Koby would take the blame. He loved his brother just that much. Sure, they did get into fight. Sometimes they’d ignore each other. However, they’d forgive the other. The two couldn’t manage a few minutes without talking to one another. Only their eye color was the way to tell them apart. When around others, they acted the same. However, out exploring, Koby tried to talk his brother out of something dangerous; like jumping off a small cliff into water. But, usually, Koby would be dragged into it anyways. And, he won’t admit it was fun later.
Sky was always in the nursery due to her sight. However, the twins always spent time with her. Koby would sometimes go out and fetch a flower for her. He’s place it behind her ear and tell her she was a princess and he was her faithful knight. Whenever Charlie left for training with their father Aston, Koby was never allowed to go. Mostly, it was because of taking the blame for Charlie and being punished. But, Koby took the time to spend it with Sky. He loved her just as much as he did Charlie. Maybe even a tad more. The two would always play princess and knight. They’d run around the nursery, Koby protecting his princess from imaginary dragons. It made Sky feel as thou she wasn’t blind and just a normal kit.
A few months later and it was the end of his mother’s life. Rosa was to go out and collect herbs for the coven’s healer even thou she wasn’t one herself. Koby decided to tag along because Charlie and Sky were still sleeping. It had rained the night before making the ground slippery and the rapids nearby overflow. Koby had seen a human’s toy near the rapids. It was fluffy and brown; shaped like a bear almost. The pale kit had wanted to get it for Sky. She surely would have loved it. When Koby had gone by the rapids to obtain the toy, he nearly fell in. The rocks were dangerously slippery. Rosa saved Koby and the human’s toy he held, however, not herself. She slipped in and was lost under the currents. Koby had searched for his mother, the toy still with him. When his search came up empty, the kit went back to the dens with a heavy heart and toy. When told of the news of Rosa’s death, everyone was devastated. No one blamed Koby for her death; No one besides himself. If he wasn’t so interested in the toy, Rosa might have still been alive.
Everything seemed to change after that. Everyone treated Koby as if he was fragile. They danced around the topic of his mother. Afraid that he’ll break and never have a change to return to his original self.
And when everything seemed to finally get better after many months, a drought hit. Almost all of the forest’s leaves became tinder; then friction. A fire started and spread quickly. Again, the human’s toy became a problem. Sky did become attached to the fluffy soft toy. It seemed to replace the pillow their mother was to her. While trying to escape, she dropped it. Aston wouldn’t let her go back to get it. Koby snuck away to retrieve it for her. They all got separated. The young fox managed to escape the burning forest with the toy. However, he couldn’t find the rest of his family. Once the fire had gone, he searched the scorched forest. And once again, his search came up empty. Koby waited outside of the forest for many days, hoping for at least one of them to come. But his hope began to fade. He would have died from malnutrition if it wasn’t for another fox finding him. The fox was from another coven. She took Koby to her home and he was made a part of the coven.
During his time in the coven, Koby mainly stayed by himself. This was the time where his anti-social and arrogance formed. The once kinda and lovable kit was slowly vanishing. There was one fox who continued to pester him till the point he nearly killed her. That seemed to be his breaking point. He panicked and blamed himself to the moment of passing out. The shock and amount of blood loss had gotten to him. He was both physically and mentally exhausted. However, the same fox he nearly killed had dragged him out of his depression. Finally learning her name, Uta, they became great friends. They went out on adventures and at night, when it got cold, they cuddled. Uta became the first fox Koby ever fell in love with. She was also the first to know about his soft side. Sadly, when everything seemed to get better again, Koby was taken from the coven. His grandfather, Baulic, had heard about the death of his family two months after he joined the new coven. The old fox traveled from the City of Vale to retrieve his grandson. Koby had to leave Uta behind as the two left, heading to Vale. He shattered each step away from Uta he took. And the toy was taken with him.
After a long trip, they finally made it to the city. Baulic gave Koby a tan scarf and a watch. The scarf was his father’s when he was younger. The watch was bought by his grandmother for him. Sadly, she wasn’t able to see Koby’s face when he got it. She had became terribly ill years ago and died. For the rest of his time in Vale, Koby was forced to stay in his human form. He was taught by Baulic how to be a carpenter and it became his profession. Recently thou, Baulic has fallen ill. He’s bedridden for the time being. Koby takes care of him and runs the little shop they own. And every night, after hearing the nightly stories from Baulic, Koby attempts to sleep, silently praying that history won’t repeat itself.]
Your Voice is so Soft
Speak up so they can know you
[A flower. A stupid flower. The fox in human’s disguise slowly walked down the streets of Vale. It was over crowded in the morning. Scratch that; it was always over crowded. Koby was out this early in the morning to find a store that sells a certain flower so he can buy it for his grandfather. He slid thru the large mass of people, bumping into a few here and there. He had considered going thru alleys but… Knowing his luck, there’d be a few thugs waiting to beat the crap out of him. Probably to settle a score. The fox snorted. Koby could obviously take them on despite his size. And a good fight in the morning could wake him up too. Nearly knocked over for the third time, Koby ducked down into the alley. He continuously ran a hand over the bangs covering his brown eye. It’ll probably aggravate it or the contacts later. But it was better than humans staring him down weirdly. He’d never really seen a human with blue and brown eyes. Green and blue, but never brown and blue. Those humans would consider him even more of a freak.
A small piece of paper was slipped from his pocket. The name of a store and a specific flower was on it. Koby had never even heard of the store. He knew Vale like the back of his hand… Awkwardly. So he couldn’t get lost. Then how come he didn’t know this store? Did it just sprout up over night? With a sigh, Koby placed the paper back into his pocket and continued on. It was mostly quiet as he zigzagged thru alleys. He was debating on asking around. Maybe the store could be found faster and Koby could go back to bed. If he could. But, if he stopped and asked, those thugs could find him faster. Walking into the crowds seems like a good cover. There was also roof travel. Koby groaned. That’s too much work. Damnit! This isn’t going anywhere. He’s running in circles. Going thru the crowd: Dangerous. Going thru alleys: Dangerous. Going over roofs: Also DANGEROUS! Pale hands dragged themselves on top of gray hair, tugging at it.
“Yo pansy!” Koby’s body froze. Of course they come now. The fox refused to look around. That wasn’t his name and he wasn’t going to respond to it. “Hey whitey!” Glove covered hands curled into a fist. Koby’s starting to think that these thugs are getting stupider and stupider. Seriously? Whitey? His hair was gray. “Yo! I’m talkin’ ta ya!” Slowly, Koby looked over his shoulder, glaring. Three thugs; Easy peasy. Two-toned eyes widened suddenly. Those bastards had weapons: a bat and brass knuckles. The fox wouldn’t let them see his shock. He created a poker face and turned towards the thugs. At least thug number one decided not to bring a weapon. “What do you want morons?” Koby wanted to mentally slap himself. The words just came from his mouth. He needed to think before talking. Pissing them off might not be the best idea. A punch to the face drew the fox out of his thoughts. Blood pooled in his mouth as he staggered to the side. He spit it out and glared up at thug number one. The thug grabbed Koby by his collar and slammed him into the wall. “Do you make it a habit of coming on to me? I’m flattered but you’re not my type,” He would have smiled but… That wasn’t possible. Instead, he chuckled slightly. In the background, thug number three was cackling as hard as a hyena. Thou, he was silenced quickly by a bat to the back of his head from thug number two. Koby was reminded of The Three Stooges as the two bickered. He went to bark out a snide remark but was cut off by a fist in his upper stomach. The fox doubled over in pain. If it wasn’t for the thug’s tight grip, Koby would have fallen over. Shaky arms wrapped around the area in pain. God that hurt.
“Now be a good little pansy and hand over the doe,” Koby tsk’d. “Like I’d do that,” He managed to gasp out. They continued to glare at each other before the thug spoke again. “Then… I’ll do it myself.” His hands snaked around Koby’s waist and dug into the back pocket. No wallet was found so he switched to the other pocket. The object of desire, once again, not there. As the thug’s hand left the pocket, he pinched the fox’s pants covered bottom. Koby’s body tensed tightly. His hands shook at his side. It took all of his strength not to deck the thug in the face. No one should touch him. Being held against the wall was enough to piss him off. But he couldn’t do anything or he might get a bat to the temple. The hand reached into the front pocket and grabbed the wallet. Thug number one smiled and pushed off of Koby. He opened it up and grabbed the cash before throwing the wallet at the human looking fox. The three left, laughing like idiots. Koby let out a shaky sigh as he slid to the floor. He hugged himself tightly and breathed heavily. Great way to start the day; Mugged, beaten, and almost sexually harassed. Awesome. Two-toned eyes peered out of the alley. No one noticed what had happened. Figures. They’re all too busy with their lives to even bother. Some poor unfortunate soul could be getting murdered and they wouldn’t give a damn. Fingers gently prodded his ribs. Koby thanked the god that seemed to hate him, for no broken ribs. With them broken, he’d most likely be bedridden and no one could take care of Baulic. No less, Koby couldn’t really trust anyone with his grandfather.
The fox put his wallet back into his pocket and stood up. His mind began to wonder. Maybe if he was acted differently, the situation’s outcome might have been changed. Not responding to them might have gotten a bat to the head. What if he gave them the money in the beginning? Koby rolled his eyes. He’d never give them that satisfaction. There could’ve been a chance to run away. He can run pretty fast. Hands furiously scratched his head. Not the time to think it over. He’ll do it when he gets home. Right now, Koby needed to get Baulic his stupid flower.
The sudden sound of garbage cans falling over made him jump. Two-toned eyes looked back to see rats eating whatever they could get from the trash. To be honest, Koby was quite envious. The rats were able to stay as animals and not have to worry about humans. It was the same with pets. What Koby would give to run around on four legs again. Well, he could become a pet. But, there’d be no one to take care of Baulic. And he doubted any human would want a scar covered fox as a pet. Plus, they’d get rid of his scarf and watch. He was being distracted again! Koby hurried out of the alley and into the crowd. Damn those thugs. He had no money now. His eyes scanned around, looking for an unoccupied stand. One of the reasons why he hated poverty; it means he’ll have to steal. And unoccupied stand was quickly found. The fox casually walked up to it and took the small wad of cash laying there. He turned and left, making sure he didn’t look suspicious. Screams from the stand’s owner hit his ears. She began accusing everyone that walked by, crying hysterically. Koby ignored the woman before turning left at a main street.
“Excuse me,” The fox jogged up to a random person and took out the piece of paper before handing it to the man. “Do you know where this store is?” The man took the paper. A few seconds past before Koby got a response. “Yeah, you take a left down here. Follow it down till the third turn on the right. Turn another left and it should be the last store,” Koby didn’t get a chance to thank him because the man took off. The fox shook his head before following the directions. Finally, he came upon the shop. The door opened with a chime from a bell. An old woman stood behind the counter. “Hello dear, what can I do for you?” She was handed the paper. Her face lit up and she scurried around the store. Koby watched confusingly, listening as she mumbled unusual things. A flower in a thin vase was handed to the fox. It was white with a purple inside and black speckles. Koby gave the old woman the money before leaving.
The fox practically sprinted home. He almost fell a few times but managed not to. The house came into view and Koby hurriedly pulled his gothic cross key out from under his shirt. It was placed into the lock and with a click, opened. Running shoes were kicked off as he headed inside. The soft buzzing of the TV was the only noise inside the house. His feet silently padded as Koby headed into the back rooms. Baulic lay, in his fox form, asleep in the bed. Lucky bastard. Thou, that’s kind of dangerous; What if someone came in and saw him. Well, Koby could always say he’s his pet and put a collar on- He shuddered at the thought. That was very creepy.
The flower was set down on the table nearby. Koby kissed his grandfather’s forehead and placed a blanket over him. He took a step back, scratching his head. Turning on the ball of his heel, Koby headed into the kitchen. A bowl was grabbed from the draining board and a box of cereal from the cabinet. Two-toned eyes stared at one cabinet in particular. It was locked up. Inside was a gun. Koby never used it thou. It’s merely for protection; if someone were to break in. The reason it was locked up was because Koby was paranoid that Baulic would become a senile old man and shoot him. The fox quickly scarfed down the cereal without milk, too lazy to put it in. Once the bowl was empty, Koby practically threw it into the sink. He brought his hand up to his face, palm up, and stared at the watch. Crap! The store needed to open soon. Probably people there already. Koby headed into the bathroom. A bruise was already forming over his cheek. Damn it. He opened his mouth, checking all his teeth. Yup, all were there. The fox then hurried to back to the front door and slipped on his shoes. He left the house, locking it behind him.
Koby needed to remind himself never to go out and buy Baulic his stupid flowers in the morning.]
